L’IRASEC a pour vocation de développer la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales sur et dans les pays d’Asie du Sud-Est – Birmanie, Brunei, Cambodge, Indonésie, Laos, Malaisie, Philippines, Singapour, Thaïlande, Timor-Leste et Viêt Nam – et sur la région dans son ensemble.
IRASEC’s mission is to develop research in the humanities and social sciences on and in the countries of Southeast Asia - Burma, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam - and on the region as a whole.

Il y a 25 ans, l’Institut de recherche sur l’Asie du Sud-Est contemporaine voyait le jour à Bangkok. Depuis sa fondation, l’IRASEC a constitué un corpus scientifique remarquable de plus de 150 publications – dont 38 % en anglais – comprenant 21 notes, 44 carnets et 87 ouvrages, complété par un nombre important de tables rondes, conférences et colloques. Founded in Bangkok twenty-five years ago, the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia has established itself as a major centre of scholarship. Since its creation, IRASEC has produced a substantial body of work comprising more than 150 publications, 38 per cent of which are in English, including 21 policy briefs, 44 research notebooks and 87 monographs. These publications are complemented by a wide range of round tables, conferences and symposia. An event co-organised with the French Center for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC Taipei), and ANR FORSEA.

Across the social sciences, scholars are increasingly engaging with creative and multimodal forms of knowledge production. At this workshop, participants will discuss their work with graphic novel, video-making, film programming, artists’ residencies, literary ethnography, podcasts, and other inventive approaches to research and writing.

The IRASEC Discussion Papers collection is enriched with a text written by Juliette SENDRA. It is a reflection on tourism in Southeast Asia in the face of the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the case study of the Javanese village of Bejiharjo, located in the Gunung Kidul region (“southern mountains”), classified as a geopark by UNESCO in 2012.
